A Note from the President

My career has blessed me with exposure to some of the best institutions and people in horticulture in Southern Nevada. Having learned much about how to garden successfully in Southern Nevada, I then had the opportunity to share my understanding and skills through many years of teaching classes and workshops. Over the years, I inevitably received many requests from members of the audience for referrals of a landscape service company that did the kind of good gardening work I was teaching. Unfortunately, I never found a company in Southern Nevada that I felt did the kind of proactive, artful, sustainable and thoughtful work I think gardening and horticulture should be.

As a result of these experiences, I founded Schilling Horticulture Group in 2003 to satisfy the very real need for a different kind of landscape service company in Southern Nevada. Schilling Horticulture strives to be different, to be better, and to practice true horticulture… the science and art of cultivating gardens, flowers, and ornamental plants (definition from the Random House Unabridged Dictionary).

There are many differences in how we understand, and do, our jobs as horticulturists, arborists and landscape designers. As a result, our work is a much better value.

• We put more work into preparing the ground:
• We purposefully overdig holes for enhanced root development
• We use of 5 different soil amendments when planting moderate-water-use plants
• We use better quality materials, and seek out better quality plants, especially trees
• We make sure all pruning is done by a certified arborist
