Local Projects

Part of what motivates us at Schilling Horticulture is that we know we can and do make a big difference in our communities. Part of this is in how we create landscaping that positively impacts the lives of our clients and their communities. We as a company, also find ways to give to worthy causes. Sometimes individuals within the company find time to give. Norm spends a lot of time doing free educational work each year, presenting workshops on tree care and other horticulture topics. Others from the company can be found teaching or helping at seminars, plant sales, etc.

Schilling Horticulture also gives to the community as a company. There are small projects, like the donation and planting of a Desert Willow tree for the Nevada Garden Clubs building. Other projects are quite a bit bigger. Norm was approached by the Leadership Class of Las Vegas regarding a project with the Huntridge Teen Clinic. The Huntridge Teen Clinic is a non-profit 501c-3 dedicated to providing dental and other medical services to meet the needs of underprivileged teens in Southern Nevada. At the onset of the project, Schilling Horticulture was asked to plant a few plants. On Norm’s first visit he could see that the needs of the property far exceeded a few plants.

That’s when Schilling Horticulture got into the action.

With the help of other local businesses providing plants, irrigation and some hefty discounts on mulches and boulders, Schilling Horticulture did a complete design and renovation project for the facility, focusing on low maintenance, tough desert plants that complimented the building and property well. Outside of the materials generously donated or discounted by other businesses, Schilling Horticulture undertook all expenses and labor to change the run-down, neglected landscape into a vision of beauty. Sitting as it does on Maryland Parkway near Sahara, it also momentarily influences the lives of thousands of commuters every day, a thing of beauty in a somewhat blighted neighborhood.
